The City of South Whittier is home to the Liberty Community Plaza, a combined social and recreational space. The center pays homage to veterans with a memorial entrance plaza.
Morillo’s scope on this project included site preparation of approximately 8 acres, and construction of a new community center. The center has multipurpose rooms, a cafe, a Wi-Fi study room, an arts and crafts room, a health and wellness room, and programs operated by Helpline Youth Counseling.
Additional features include a photovoltaic canopy on the building, trash enclosure, walkways, stairs, a ramp, an outdoor stage, utilities, parking, landscaping/ driveway/ fire lanes at the site’s upper level, a playground, and landscaping added to the existing track at the lower level. The 23,424 square foot center exceeded sustainability goals, achieving a LEED Gold certification from the USGBC.
